What We’re Reading

  1. Cancer’s New Face: Younger and Female - A new report from the American Cancer Society shows that six of the top 10 most common cancers are seeing an uptick including breast, uterine, colorectal, pancreatic, melanoma, and prostate cancers. Notably, women are being affected more than men and they’re being diagnosed at younger ages: Cancer rates are increasing among women under 50 and among women 50 to 64. Also significant: New cases of cervical cancer are on the rise, particularly among women aged 30 to 44, reversing decades of progress due to delayed pap smears (and we can’t not add that our recent investment in Teal Health targets this very problem).

  2. Here’s what President Trump’s initial actions could mean for VCs - With the new administration - bullish areas are AI infrastructure, energy, crypto, and a positive outlook on liquidity.

  3. Is seaweed the next kale? - The seaweed industry is projected to reach $85B globally in 2028. In a five-month trial, seaweed that had been harvested three years prior still reduced emissions by over 80%. The addition of seaweed improved beef cattle growth rates with no adverse health effects.

  4. The Broken Venture Capital System - How broken parts of venture capital create a breeding ground for some to prey on founders and how there are opportunities for funds to generate alpha without aiming for unicorns.

  5. Iconic Conversations with John Diaz at Stone Mountain Ventures Podcast - John Diaz is the Founder and Managing Partner of Stone Mountain Ventures. His focus is on early-stage investments throughout the healthcare, AI, consumer, and technology space.

  6. Predictions for 2025—And Why Predictions Don’t Actually Matter - Predictions for 2025:
